Why are we afraid of making mistakes? Are we becoming too conformist afraid of taking risks, treading often traveled path? Our parents taught us that it is alright to make mistakes "mistakes are stepping stones to success", but what kind of message are we passing to our kids?
We put tremendous pressure on them to succeed, be smart, which leaves very little incentive for them to deviate from routine, learn new things and innovate. As employees we are rewarded only for good performance and the same is true for the society. So we are becoming increasingly reluctant to admit our mistakes and in the process stop acquiring knowledge or doing something new or different. We try to look only for the data that confirms our beliefs, try blaming others for our mistakes.
As IBM’s Thomas J. Watson, Sr., noted, “If you want to succeed, double your failure rate.”

Unconditional Love
Children must be loved unconditionally, no matter whatever expectations we have from them. They must be loved in the moment without which we cannot enjoy our lives. Kids have feelings too, again woke up to this reality when Chinnu wrote it on a paper and gave her mom that she needs to be told rather than being cursed.
Children teaches us too, only if we are willing to listen. They challenge and force us to look at ourselves, our imperfections. Salute the resilience of parents of challenged kids, the unconditional love they bestow on their wards.

Self Denial
Everyone is in denial about something or the other, deceiving oneself to satisfy some one's ego. We deny being obese, while our tummies say otherwise. We throw a deaf ear to our partners and kids tantrums, trying not to estrange them. We wake up and go to the same job which we condemn every other day. We deny being in debt, while our credit card bills show otherwise. We preach our kids moral values, at the same time unapologetic about not practicing ourselves. It takes an external crisis to break the denial by which time the damage would already have been done.

Happiness
Despite all the wealth we accumulate - air conditioners, plasma TVs - true happiness has lagged our prosperity. Though happiness is related to economic achievement, the effect does not last. We will become envious of a new, richer set of people than before. We will keep on adding to the list of things we want to possess. But can we switch off from the materialistic world, not easy!
So the best thing would be do things that produce lasting changes in satisfaction levels - lend a helping hand and make difference in at least one person's life ?! My grandfather was a lot happier person and never showed an iota of ego or jealousy or greed and helped a lot of people in need.

हिन्दी में ब्लाग
यह बहुत ख़ुशी की बात है, that one can blog in their own language. Its amazing and heart warming to be able to write in one's own mother tongue. I wait for the day when Google offers the feature in Telugu. No doubt, it should be pretty soon. धन्यवाद Google !
